Die Jury war beeindruckt von der Vielfalt und Kreativität der eingereichten Projekte. Die grosse Bandbreite an Formen und Funktionen zeigt das Potenzial, das im zirkulären Denken liegt. Aus ein paar Stücken Abfallholz entstanden elf Projekte, von denen jedes es wert wäre, weiterverfolgt zu werden. Da ein Punktegleichstand unter den drittplatzierten Projekten herrschte und beide sehr überzeugend waren, einigte sich die Jury letztlich darauf, zwei dritte Ränge zu vergeben.
Aufgrund der Verschiebung der Wettbewerbsdeadline findet die Preisübergabe und Ausstellung der Arbeiten nun im Zentrum für Zirkularität Liechtensteins statt. Dies ist ein würdiger Rahmen, um die elf innovativen Projekte ins Rampenlicht zu rücken. Das genaue Datum wird in Kürze bekannt gegeben, und weitere Informationen zur Ausstellung und Preisverleihung folgen in der zweiten Augusthälfte 2024.
Die Jury gratuliert allen elf Projekten zu ihrem inspirierenden und wertvollen Beitrag zum Diskurs über Zirkularität in der Region und darüber hinaus. Auf den folgenden Seiten sind die Projekte im Einzelnen kurz umrissen und mit Kommentaren der Jury versehen.
The jury was impressed by the diversity and creativity of the projects submitted. The wide range of forms and functions shows the potential that lies in circular thinking. Eleven projects were created from a few pieces of waste wood, each of which would be worth pursuing further. As there was a tie between the third-placed projects and both were very convincing, the jury ultimately agreed to award two third places.
As the competition deadline was postponed, the award ceremony and exhibition of the works have also been postponed and relocated. They will now take place in Liechtenstein's first "Bauteillager" and Centre for Circularity. This will give the eleven submitted projects a worthy setting and publicity. The date will be announced shortly.
The jury congratulates all eleven projects on their inspiring and valuable contribution to the discourse on circularity in the region and beyond. On the following pages, the projects are briefly outlined in detail and accompanied by comments from the jury.

Projects
007 WANIL
Das Projekt Wanil besticht durch seine Einfachheit und vielfältige Einsetzbarkeit. Die Jury sieht grosse ästhetische Qualitäten, hat jedoch Zweifel, ob das Objekt stehend einen Veloständer abgeben würde, welcher die Velos genügend stabilisiert. Für die hängende Variante scheint der Materialaufwand relativ gross für die zu erfüllende Funktion. Das Projekt kommt in die zweite Runde, schafft es aber nicht aufs Podest.
Wanil is characterised by its simplicity and versatility. The jury sees great aesthetic qualities, but has doubts as to whether the object would make an upright bicycle stand that would stabilise the bicycles sufficiently. For the suspended version, the amount of material required seems relatively high for the function to be fulfilled. The project made it to the second round, but did not make it onto the podium.

008 Moka-P (3. Preis)
Moka-P ist ein bis ins Detail durchdachtes Projekt, das sich sowohl in der Kunstgeschichte als auch im Produktdesign, insbesondere bei der namensgebenden Espressomaschine, inspiriert. Das Objekt besteht aus zwei Teilen, welche zusammen oder separat verwendet werden können, was eine Vielzahl an formalen Möglichkeiten zur Folge hat. Die Jury sieht es kritisch, dass zur Erstellung des Objekts viele Teile wieder neu verklebt werden müssen, schätzt aber umso mehr, dass alle 12 Elemente verwendet wurden. In der Gesamtbewertung landet Moka-P auf dem dritten Platz.
Moka-P is a project that has been thought through down to the last detail and is inspired by both art history and product design, in particular the espresso machine that gives it its name. The object consists of two parts, which can be used together or separately, resulting in a variety of formal possibilities. The jury criticised the fact that many parts had to be re-glued to create the object, but appreciated all the more that all 12 elements were used. In the overall assessment, Moka-P came in third place.

009 Aster
Aster ist eine höhenverstellbare Bank. In drei verschiedenen Positionen vermag sie in verschiedenen Situationen eine passende Sitzgelegenheit zu bieten. Dabei referenziert sie drei Landschaftselemente: Rheintal, Rheinhang und Alperum. Während das Objekt ästhetisch anspricht und funktional vielfältig ist, werden die Stabilität und der Sitzkomfort bei diesem Projekt in Zweifel gezogen.
Aster is a height-adjustable bench. In three different positions, it can provide suitable seating in various situations. It references three landscape elements: the Rhine valley, the Rhine slope and the Alperum. While the object is aesthetically appealing and functionally versatile, the stability and seating comfort of this project are in doubt.

013 Lawindur (2. Preis)
Lawindur ist ein vielfältig einsetzbares und modular konzipiertes Regal. Die Jury ist sehr beeindruckt von der Präzision im Entwurf, welcher die Formensprache von Awlin aufnimmt und ein in sich stimmiges, aber erweiterbares Objekt entwickelt. Die konstruktive Einfachheit macht das Objekt glaubwürdig als stabiles und funktionales Möbel. Die Jury vergibt Lawindur den zweiten Preis.
Lawindur is a versatile and modular shelving unit. The jury is very impressed by the precision of the design, which takes up the formal language of Awlin and develops a coherent yet expandable object. The constructive simplicity makes the object credible as stable and functional furniture. The jury awarded Lawindur second prize.

016 Daptin (1. Preis)
Daptin sticht aus einer Reihe von Projekten hervor, welche aus den verfügbaren Stücken eine Sitzgelegenheit mit unterschiedlichen Höhen entwickelten. Es überzeugt neben dieser ambitionierten Funtionsvielfalt durch die Kombination einer ausgeklügelten Konstruktion und Leichtigkeit in der Erscheinung. Daptin ist der perfekte Begleiter für Awlin in Form und Funktion. Die Jury gibt den ersten Preis an Daptin und gratuliert dem Designer für diesen gelungenen Wurf.
Daptin stands out from a series of projects that developed seating with different heights from the available pieces. In addition to this ambitious variety of functions, it impresses with its combination of sophisticated construction and lightness of appearance. Daptin is the perfect companion for Awlin in form and function. The jury awards first prize to Daptin and congratulates the designer on this successful design.

017 VersaTri
VersaTri ist konzeptionell interessant, da es mit wenigen Elementen und geringfügigen Einschnitten eine Fülle von Funktionen verspricht. In der Diskussion wird allerdings klar, dass diese Funktionen, insbesondere der Stuhl, in der Praxis mit diesem Material nicht auf eine stabile Art und Weise erfüllt werden können. Zudem wird kritisiert, dass ein Gestell ohne gerade Flächen von limitiertem Nutzen ist. Die Verschiedenheit der Formen des Offcuts ist eher hinderlich als ein Potential für dieses Konzept. Dennoch gefällt der Ansatz der Jury, müsste aber für einen Podestplatz noch bedeutend weiterentwickelt werden.
VersaTri is conceptually interesting, as it promises a wealth of functions with just a few elements and minor incisions. In the discussion, however, it becomes clear that these functions, especially the chair, cannot be fulfilled in a stable way in practice with this material. It is also criticised that a frame without straight surfaces is of limited use. The variety of shapes of the offcut is more of a hindrance than a potential for this concept. Nevertheless, the jury likes the approach, but it would need to be significantly further developed to achieve a podium place.

021 2in1
2in1 ist ein Sitzstuhl und Liegestuhl in einem. Das Projekt überzeugt durch eine hohe Komplexität der Fügung der Einzelteile, durch welche die zwei Formen zustande kommen. Die Jury sieht den Komfort, insbesondere die Rücklehne beim Sitzstuhl als kritisch. Beim Erstellen dieses Stuhles entsteht wiederum ein Verschnitt, da die genutzten Teile nicht dem Orginalverschnitt des Awlin entsprechen. Der innovative Entwurf wurde ausgiebig diskutiert und gewürdigt, schaffte aber letztlich keine Rangierung.
2in1 is a chair and deckchair in one. The project impresses with its highly complex joining of the individual parts, which creates the two forms. The jury considers the comfort, especially the backrest of the seat chair, to be critical. The creation of this chair also results in waste, as the parts used do not correspond to the original waste of the Awlin. The innovative design was discussed at length and honoured, but ultimately did not make the cut.

022 RefleX
RefleX kann sowohl als Box wie auch als Bank genutzt werden und beinhaltet Stühle. Die Jury stellt in Frage, ob diese Art von Box in Bezug auf Gewicht, Stabilität und Geschlossenheit nicht zu viele Nachteile hat, sodass das Holz nicht effizient eingesetzt wird. Die Stühle sind zwar einfach, jedoch wird die Stabilität von der Jury bezweifelt. Die Jury würdigt die funktionale Vielfalt des Ansatzes und sieht ästhetisch viel Potenzial, aber für einen Podestplatz reicht es allerdings nicht.
RefleX can be used both as a box and as a bench and includes chairs. The jury questions whether this type of box does not have too many disadvantages in terms of weight, stability and compactness, so that the wood is not used efficiently. Although the chairs are simple, the jury doubts their stability. The jury recognises the functional diversity of the approach and sees a lot of aesthetic potential, but not enough for a place on the podium.

024 Elvin
Elwin ist eine aus drei Teilen zusammengesteckte Sitzgelegenheit. Das Objekt ist ansprechend und elegant, allerdings ist der Massstab der Stücke nicht jener der Zeichnungen, weshalb das Objekt leider in der Realität mit den Reststücken nicht in dieser Dimension gebaut werden kann.
Elwin is a seat assembled from three pieces. The object is attractive and elegant, but the scale of the pieces is not that of the drawings, which is why the object, unfortunately, cannot be built in this dimension in reality with the remaining pieces.

032 Kate
Kate ist ein schlichtes, ansprechendes Möbel. Die Jury schätzt den Ansatz und die Beschreibung. Kate wäre durchaus ein so umsetzbares Möbel, kann sich aber im Wettbewerb nicht durch die funktional vielfältigere Konkurrenz durchsetzen.
Kate is a simple, appealing piece of furniture. The jury appreciates the approach and the description. Kate would certainly be a piece of furniture that could be realised in this way but cannot prevail against the more functionally diverse competition.

033 Milena (3. Preis)
Milena verwendet alle 12 Teile für ein ungewöhnliches und innovatives Sitzmöbel mit vielen liebevoll ausgearbeiteten Details, von einem drehbaren Ohrstück bis hin zu verstellbaren Winkeln. Das Möbelstück ist aufgrund der Materialfülle vermutlich schwer und daher eher unpraktisch für den öffentlichen Raum. Auch wenn die verschiedenen Winkel, ähnlich wie bei einem Liegestuhl, einen Mehrwert bieten, erweitern sie das Funktionsspektrum nicht grundlegend, was bei anderen Projekten in dieser Kategorie der Fall war. Dennoch verdient das sehr schön aufgearbeitete und durchdachte Projekt den dritten Platz.
Milena uses all 12 parts to create an unusual and innovative piece of seating furniture with many lovingly crafted details, from a swivelling ear piece to adjustable angles. Due to the abundance of materials, the piece of furniture is probably heavy and therefore rather impractical for public spaces. Even if the different angles, similar to a deckchair, offer added value, they do not fundamentally expand the range of functions, which was the case with other projects in this category. Nevertheless, this beautifully crafted and well thought-out project deserves third place.
